- To promote the acquisition and exchange of knowledge, experience and good practice in the field of lighting management, design, installation, repair and routine maintenance.
- To consult and co-operate with other lighting authorities and those bodies having a specific interest in lighting.
- To make and maintain links with other local authority associations, particularly the CSS Lighting Working Group, appropriate Government Departments, Institutions, British Standard Committees and other relevant agencies.
- To promote lighting as a valuable public service to reduce accidents, deter crime, reduce the fear of going out at night and enhance the night time environment as a positive extension to commercial leisure and tourism activities
- To encourage sufficient funding for lighting against a backdrop of budget restrictions, rapidly deteriorating equipment and installations which do not comply with the current lighting or electrical British Standards.
NOTE: Membership is open to the lighting engineer or substitute for each local authority which is a member of SCOTS plus a representative from the Scottish Executive. The chair, who is nominated by SCOTS, and the secretary both represent Scotland on the CSS Street Lighting Working Group
